it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Robotics Team 968 goal for this year is to outreach their passion for STEM to the parents and students and to fund raise for the FRC First Competition. "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -B. Franklin
Our Robotics Team 968 has won 8 regional, 1 championship, and countless of awards.
They strive to provide high school students with opportunities to experience real world engineering through robotics. Every year, they are given 6 weeks to build a robot to fulfill a task at the competition. The varsity sport for the mind, my FRC Robotics team compete in excitement of sport, with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills as they build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to "real-world engineering" as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.
Many students in our community do not have the drive and family support to attend college. Students in our community come from divorced families or families that are financially unstable. The importance of higher education and college readiness will improve the community culture and provide guidance to students with non-traditional homes. We would like to expose science, technology, and math (STEM) to the students in our community to encourage higher education and college readiness.
In Their Own Words
I will be teaching the STEM summer camp to 3rd-8th grade students. With my teacher's help, my team will plan 1-week lessons to teach students how to build and program the Lego Mindstorm, and finally compete on the last day of camp. We will teach the young students the meaning of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Enthusiasm, & Motivation (STEM). Combining the two acronyms, we created the name of the Summer Camp: STEM 2 (STEM squared).
My team is trying to share the amazing ability and creativity of robotics with the local students in our community. We would like to expose STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) to the younger students so they will not be afraid or nervous to learn it when they enter high school.
