Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary school is located in a small, rural community. We have one high school, one junior high, and five elementary schools. Our school is 84% Hispanic and 100% free breakfast and lunch. My classroom students come from migrant worker families, minimum wage families, and even teacher's children. Every child is treated with the same respect. Since I have been teaching for many years I am now teaching students that I taught their parents.
First grade students are like sponges; they love to learn and please their teachers.
It is my goal and job to give them access to the world within the walls of our classroom in an exciting and flexible way. With the help of this project. My students will be able to pick how they would like to learn for the day. They maybe using Surf seats, sitting on the carpet, or using the portable recliner picnic seat.
My Project
Through various training I have learned that, “STEM education focuses on promoting creativity and exploration in the learning process”. The purpose of “S.T.E.M. by STEM!” is to expose students at an early age to technology, hands-on investigations, and project-based learning.
Students are like sponges in first grade, which makes having weekly STEM projects a must.
They want to absorb all the knowledge they can to please you.
I envision my classroom where every first grader is excited about learning. When you walk in the rooms the students are working in teams and collaborating about their solutions, talking about their projects, and communicating what they could do to make their project better. For example, students are excited that they constructed the perfect marshmallow bridge. Students are going home and telling their parents about all the fascinating things they did in school that day.
