My Students
My students walk into my classroom with wonder. They are ready to learn. I want to keep that excitement alive in them. To do that, I need to keep them engaged and wondering. I am a looping teacher and loop with my students from kindergarten to 1st grade.
I teach at a Title I school in Michigan where over 90% percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They love being in school because they feel safe and loved.
My Project
My students need STEM books for our classroom library and STEM readers to use in their book boxes. The books in the library will be used for read-alouds and for kids to read on their own. Most of the books will be used to do mini-lessons before doing STEM activity or maker space time.
I hope these books will breathe new life into every STEM lesson that we do! The use of books during mini-lessons is a very powerful tool, and I have found that many students need these books for ideas and to help scaffold what is expected during STEM times. While I do not want to tell students what and how to make things, I do want to give them plenty of ideas of things to make!
