Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school (kindergarten to 8th grade), my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. The students at my school all receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of students have or continue to suffer some sort of trauma in their short life.
What happens outside my door is out of control most of the time, but it is my priority to make each child's learning experience engaging and academic.
My Project
Our school is moving into the 21st century by becoming a STEM school. As part of the push into the right direction in education, I want to prepare my students by teaching these areas of STEM with literature.
Students needs to be able to read and understand non-fiction texts to become successful members of society.
Starting in kindergarten sets the students up for success. Students are going to learn how non-fiction text is different from fiction text and learn comprehension strategies for these types of text. The texts will be used in all academic areas and be used with classroom based projects.
