My Students
I teach second grade in a rural North Carolina public school and work with 19 excited young learners. Many of my students are English language learners and many more come from low socio-economic households.
This year our classroom will build a supportive community that will work collaboratively to help all students learn and grow.
My students are excited to come to school and eager for hands-on learning. Reading about STEM is no longer enough. It's time to get our hands and minds working on our own STEM projects!
My Project
The future of education is STEM and as a classroom teacher I want to ensure I'm providing my students with the opportunity to explore STEM.
With the materials provided students will choose which STEM challenge they'd like to undertake.
These challenges can be as simple as building a wall out of dominos or a cube out of play dough to creating a trap or toy out of pipe cleaners. The possibilities are endless with these materials in my students hands.
Students will have the opportunity to take what they've learned during the first build and apply their learning to improving their structure. Students will the draw their structure and write about how they designed it. These follow-up activities support literacy and critical thinking.
