My classroom is made up of 22 sweet first graders! 12 boys and 10 girls. My students are so eager to learn and have a love for books! Over half of our population is from low income families. Our small town of Ecru, Mississippi employees a large number of factory workers. Many students go straight from graduating high school to the hard work of a furniture factory. I hope to give my students hands on learning opportunities and experiences to inspire them to pursue careers in the fields of math and science.
My students love hands on learning experiences as well as being presented with a “challenge”! The group of boys that I have this year are particularly interested and gifted in the areas of science and math. These bins will help make these subjects relevant to students as well as promote creativity, curiosity, and problem solving. My hope is that these types of activities will help students develop passions and interests that they will follow into real life careers one day. Problem solving skills as taught through stem can help my students think critically and solve problems in their futures. Please consider investing in the futures of my students!
