Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom has 21 eager and enthusiastic first graders. Each day, my students actively participate in their learning and synergize with one another to support each other. Our classroom is engaged in learning all day and we are always trying to find new ways to make learning fun.
Some of our classmates are new to our school, others have learning struggles, some are looking for stability and love, and about half are English language learners.
Many of us are on free or reduced lunch, but these obstacles don't deter us from learning. They push us to try harder to excel and to be college ready.
Our school and classroom are positive places for high student engagement and interactive learning. We work hard with what we are given and love to learn through many different modalities. Creating a safe, student-centered learning environment has high priority and we are always looking for ways to improve our classroom.
My Project
By having access to STEM bins containing building blocks, gears, and manipulatives, our class engages our brains in higher levels of thinking, which creates opportunities for collaborative problem solving, all while having fun with classmates. 3D Magnetic Building Blocks will allow us to build exciting structures using various shapes, all of which are magnetic, allowing our creations to stay intact while we create and manipulate our masterpieces. Architect Design Blocks will allow us to use our imaginations to create buildings, towers, and bridges by utilizing various shapes and sizes. Gears! Gears! Gears! will allows us to explore spinning gears, cranks, and connectors while encouraging us to critically think and problem solve.
Our classroom needs more hands-on manipulatives so we can access a variety of STEM activities to engage our minds in various challenges all throughout the school year.
We switch morning tub activities every 5-7 days; therefore our class needs a varied supply of manipulatives to work and build with to increase our learning. Our class has a lot of fun working together to problem solve and create new inventions daily.
