My students need a comfortable meeting area to begin each morning at. It would be wonderful to add a welcoming area rug, large whiteboards for thoughts and ideas, and chart paper galore!
Our students will be entering Kindergarten in a brand new charter school that will be focused on Technology, Engineering, Math, and Science. The students in this Kindergarten classroom come from a variety of communities. It is important that we are able to stock our classroom to provide the optimal learning experience. Kindergarten provides the basic foundation for a child's academic career. Providing our children with an engaging classroom setting will help them feel a sense of community which will be our focus for the school year.
Our school receives one-third of the funding of traditional public schools in our area from the state.
This creates an economic hardship for our school. As a result, we have a challenging time acquiring materials to support advancing our curriculum for our school. My Kindergarten students are eager to work together to design our classroom community with your help! Some basic equipment such as an area rug will provide a much-needed space to share, read, sing and learn.
My students and I truly appreciate the donations from across the global community. It takes a village and our learners are experiencing the concept of helping others and becoming great citizens.
My Project
Every child wants to feel welcome and comfortable in a new classroom setting. What better way then to brighten up the room with colorful, bright rugs where our mornings will begin each day. Many of our whole group lessons will be focused around morning meeting. What better way to create class lists, morning messages, and sight word sentences then having an amazing whiteboard and a variety of chart paper to use on the wall above our morning meeting rugs. Reading will be a large part of learning. The stools and carpet squares will provide alternative seating for when we travel around the world with our new world map while we read our very favorite chapter book series that involves world history.
These resources will add in community, collaboration and literacy skills in order to lay a solid foundation to the success in the future learning of my kindergarten students.
Kindergarten should be a time to learn and explore through imagination. That being said I have added a bookbinder for writer's workshop. How amazing would it be for each child to create there own stories and learn how to bind them all by their selves. There are many ways to explore using one's imagination. Art is the key to a wonderful childhood. A paper cutter would be a great asset for both myself and my very creative students. Last on the wish list would be classroom mail slots. With these mailboxes, I hope to instill organization which is a huge key to success. Being taught the values of being neat and organized at a young age will be something my students will carry on with them as their education continues through the years.
