This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The elementary school students at my school are unlike students anywhere else in the world. They are uniquely wonderful in all aspects of their being. They attend a Title I school in a rural area of North Carolina.
In the past year, our school has implemented an intervention block, club day, and AVID, broadening our student experiences and creating new and exciting learning opportunities.
Our goals this year are especially targeted on closing the achievement gap through access to materials and resources.
My Project
My students will use Hexbugs to learn about habitats and energy conservation efforts. They will use STEM themes to address issues that align with Common Core and Essential Standard themes. They will use engineering to build habitats where their Hexbugs would thrive and then analyze them in comparison to standards about animal habitats. This will enrich my students' learning by giving them a hands-on lab to show the effects of deforestation, human influence and why conservation efforts are so important. This is improve their school lives by offering them an opportunity to use STEM to enhance literacy in the classroom.
