Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love their enthusiastic faces when my students use manipulatives or hands-on-activities. My students encounter many difficulties inside and outside our school site. Our school is located in a Latino low-income area. Students qualify for free lunch. The majority of our students are English Language Learners. Parents face many struggles to support students at home. During the school year we have to deal with lock-downs due to gang violence around our school.
Despite all the challenges that our students have to face, they love to learn and work in school related activities.
They come to school hoping their future will be brighter for them and their families.
My Project
This school year I will engage my students using activities in which they can use their problem-solving skills. I want to empower their learning. I want them to feel the productive struggles and be able to persevere to find the answer to their problems.
I believe students gain more learning from their mistakes and failures.
That is why, I believe these STEM Kits, such as Vehicle Building Engineering Center, Turn & Learn Magnetic Gears, & Magna-Tiles, will facilitate an incredible experience to love science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. With your generosity, my students will be able to work in centers during the school year and exploring all these incredible activities to become our future scientist.
