The highly inquisitive students from my school live in one of the highest inner-city poverty areas in not just New York, but in the entire nation. Many of our students are English language learners whose families survive day-to-day and view coming to this public school as a way to escape their home lives.
Many of them don't even have homes to go to!
We try our best to provide our students with access to after school programs and technology, but with major budget cuts, we can no longer afford to fund student-centered projects. Our purpose is to help level the playing field for these incredible kids. With that, they would greatly appreciate your help!
My Project
The 3D pens I am requesting will help in many areas of the classroom. Having science technology, literally in the palm of their hands, will help my students to stay curious and explore the world around them. I will use a makerspace to help them understand how things work and create their own projects. The ways they can use 3D pens in a makerspace is only limited by their "Texas Sized" ideas. The pens will aid in problem-solving and critical thinking in other areas in math as well. With choice based projects, the 3D pens will make a creative medium for students to share and help explain what they learned. Who knows better how students learn and what students need to learn than students themselves. My students will be allowed to research and come up with other ways to involve the 3D pens into their learning as well.
