Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In the heart of Washington, DC, my students represent the diversity and resiliency that have always made our country great. Within a school that is approximately 52% Latino and 42% Black, my students learn about acceptance and tolerance both from the content in their classes and from one another in our richly diverse community. 100% of the student body at my Title I school qualify for free and reduced price lunch services, and a significant portion also qualify for homelessness services.
My students show me every day that, despite the significant challenges they face, each of them has the capacity to question, challenge and change the world.
With your support and investment, my students can continue to reach their full potential on whatever path they choose. They can enter middle school confident that they are fully prepared to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Finally, my students will be confident that they have access to all of the resources and support that they need, and more importantly, that they deserve.
My Project
As an interventionist, the most special and important part of my job is small-group instruction. During this time, students are able to focus on the specific skills they need to grow as successful readers. Students also build confidence in their abilities when lessons are differentiated to their strengths and learning styles.
This project will support my students by increasing the quality and clarity of my small-group instruction.
The desk easel, magnetic letters, and magnetic sight words will improve intervention by providing opportunities for me to model strong decoding strategies. Additionally, the timer will support me and my students in using our time efficiently.
