My students are from a very small, rural school district in Oklahoma. Our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, over 85% receive reduced-price or free meals.
The students in my science classes have a desire to learn through a hands-on approach.
They want to be part of the action rather than hearing about it or watching someone else. Students love the STEM bins and any science projects and experiments I give them. They love to see what happens and where science can lead them. I want my students to experience the same opportunities as students in larger schools.
Miss Frizzle said it best, "Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!"
My Project
This subscription to Generation Genius would allow me to positively impact students who step through my classroom door. The discussion questions would start the wheels turning before the video was shown. The critical thinking skills would continue through the class with thorough questioning following the video. A hands-on activity to make the topic turn into a concrete concept would be the next stop on our science adventure. Everyone learns better by doing not just talking or watching. My students love learning and gaining knowledge through hands-on fun! This Generation Genius subscription allows for complete learning by providing the teacher with exit tickets and even quizzes to check for understanding.
