Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every, single, day, I am blown away by what my students are able to do with how little they have. Many come from abusive pasts, countries around the world, or homes without food.
Despite these hardships, all of my 6th graders come to school each day with a passion to learn more than they knew the day before.
For this particular set of kids, learning doesn't come easy. But, that has never stopped them, and it never will. My students are becoming writers who want to change the world!
My Project
My first STEEAM project got funded very quickly so we've already been able to use our materials and the students have shown overwhelming love for these items. Included in our first STEEAM project was a professional development book about making writing come alive with building their thoughts. I devoured the book and immediately implemented the activities. Because of the engagement around this, I wanted to get even more items for students to build with.
I've noticed that when students get to build and play (even in 6th grade) their writing is SO much stronger and they become emotionally involved in their work.
These extra materials will let my students' imaginations soar and the creativity to finally be brought back into the ELA classroom.
