Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is so foundational that it deserves to be the most fun that a child can have. Students in our very diverse, depressed area have enough worries and stress at home. School needs to be the bright spot in our students‘ day where their “work” is play!
Our Kindergarten community is family.
They work together to solve problems and learn life together. Reading and discussing books about kids who become engineers, scientists and architects will be an eye-opening experience for us. It might just be the first step towards a successful career path that could change the world!
My Project
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics are the rapidly growing areas for careers of our future. Our students need to be exposed to all of these areas from the youngest of ages.
Kindergarteners love to hear stories of success, especially when it occurs after failures.
Why? That is what their life has all been about so far. Taking first steps in reading and writing doesn’t come easily to most. Engineer Rosie Revere, Architect Iggy Peck, and Scientist Ada Twist had rough starts in their skill-building too!
Filling our class library with books showing kids that are successful in the STEAM areas will inspire students to follow the lead of these fun characters that they can relate to!
Once they realize that they can experiment and develop skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics, they will need the non-fiction books full of experiments to try! There will be project books that match the character’s books, science experiment books and LEGO Build-It volumes that will help utilize our newest LEGOs.
