My Students
Hard working and striving to make multiple gains in first grade. They come from a multitude of different backgrounds. We are in a very low income area, a lot of the students do not have any support at home, being raised by single parents or by grandparents. Some of the students go home to an empty house and refrigerator. We have a lot of foster kids, especially since we are across the street from a shelter. High functioning special education students are mainstreamed into regular education classes.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in the lives of my students by broadening their horizons. Students, especially younger ones, are beginning to think school is a hum drum of pencil, paper, and textbooks. They know how to use IPhone, IPads, and other electronics, but don't get to experiment and work hands on with robots and STEM activities. This will improve their mindset of school and how they are learning. By working with these different science, engineering, and technology, it will open up the eyes to all the available job opportunities that are out there. This can help make learning fun that they can use and take with them in the real world.
