My students need chemical reaction kits as well as materials to make existing science labs "bigger and better". By incorporating these STEM Challenges for students, they will dive deeper into concepts that spark them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach integrated science topics to middle school students, ages 11 through 14. At my school, a large majority of the students who I encounter both in my classroom and on campus are extremely socioeconomically disadvantaged. This year, a colleague and myself are starting a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) Club on campus from scratch, which will meet once a week after school, and be available to about 1,200 students on campus. That's a lot of students, and with that, we will need a lot of supplies, so we are asking for your help.
This after school club will not only allow students to explore topics of STEAM more than what they can do during class, but it will also give students a safe place to go after school.
Students at our school oftentimes find themselves without activities after school, yet waiting hours for parents to return home from work. They seek the opportunity to reach beyond topics in class by wondering "why" or "how" things work, or "what if" they ran experiments differently. Through this club, we will be providing students with a safe alternative for after school activities, while fostering that natural sense of wonder.
My Project
The Inquiries in Science: Discovering Acids and Bases Kit will allow for student-driven inquiry into science topics covered in an after school STEAM club on campus.
These materials will allow for students to make prior knowledge come to life, while also letting students to explore and make experiments "bigger and better" than what they have done before.
The stronger concentration of hydrogen peroxide (Hydrogen Peroxide, 30%, Reagent Grade, 500 mL) will allow for students to make stronger chemical reactions. This will further foster a love for science fields. By allowing students to explore on their own, students will open up to what we are offering in the classroom.
