Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please help my students get the instructional tools they need to develop their curiosity and creativity through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) activities.
Our students come in all sizes and colors, are intelligent, curious, and eager to learn.
We are a Title I school located in a low-socioeconomic area of Miami. We have very limited funds to purchase technology for our school. As a result, our students are not able to participate in the kinds of hands-on science, engineering and math-based learning experiences that foster inquisitiveness, stimulate the mind, and promote academic growth.
My Project
In our STEAM lab, the students will use the 3D printer to work on the scientific process, space science, geography, and mathematics lessons. They will create cutaway models to explore the various layers of the Earth, Sun, and other planets in the solar system. They’ll make models of volcanos, mountains, and other landforms. They will design, construct, and test structures like bridges to better understand why scientist use models to explain how things work. As well as create snowflakes and other complex geometric structures and figures to learn about geometry, measurement, and other mathematical processes. The digital microscope will be used to teach life science. The students will be able to observe the internal structures of plants to better understand how they use energy to produce food, transport nutrients, and reproduce. They’ll see microorganisms such as bacteria, algae, fungi, and other structures to learn about their functions in living systems and better understand the role they play in ecosystems. The Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet cases will help protect the tablets they use to work on coding, robotics, circuitry, and other STEAM programs. These hands-on learning experiences will awaken their curiosity, help develop their critical thinking skills, and expose them to real life science experiences.
