Help me give my students LEGOs, Kid K'NEX, Play-Doh, Click Builders Prism Jr. and other STEAM activities and materials, with Sterilite containers to hold the items, for them to engage in STEAM centers.
I teach happy and excited-to-learn first graders. All day long they have fun growing, thinking, and trying their best. My school is a Title I school. This school year, 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are a full-inclusion school, which means all students, regardless of any disabilities or languages spoken, receive their education within a regular classroom. My first graders are creative, innovative, and talented individuals. They love to share and learn! I strive to meet the many needs of every individual student in my classroom and give them opportunities they may not otherwise be exposed to. I focus on teaching and caring for the whole child, by meeting the individual needs of all my students.
I want my students to apply what they are learning in the classroom and relate it to the real world, not only with our academic learning, but things such as: knowing how to be kind, making a friend, showing empathy, staying organized, being honest and other social and character skills that are so important.
My Project
I am lucky enough to teach first grade students each and every day! In an effort to make learning more hands on, I am searching for good quality materials to help me do this. Therefore, I am requesting STEAM materials for our classroom.
STEAM, which stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, is all about using our hands and minds in new and different ways to learn.
With the use of the Play-Doh, LEGOs, Kid K'NEX, Wikki Sticks, and other materials, my students will be able to engage in hands-on experiences by using individual STEAM bins to create real life structures, models, art creations, etc. This gives students the chance to not only use these materials for our first grade learning standards, but the opportunity to create, build, investigate or develop, anything that interests them during our STEM time. These bins will help to foster a love of creation, thinking and help to develop their skills, interests and mindsets that could help them to make choices later on about their careers.
The Sterilite containers will be used to organize and store the materials, so they can be kept in great condition to be used all year long and even by classes of future students.
