My students need exposure to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) materials. My students need sensory materials for play and fine-motor growth.
My students are inquisitive 5 and 6 year-olds who love coming to school everyday! They are happy children who are eager to learn and do their best.
School is a happy place for my students.
They love exploring and tend to gravitate toward activities that are tactile or hands-on. They are incredible artists and express their fondness for arts and crafts. The best a teacher can do is to provide a learning environment that brings out the uniqueness and talents of each student.
My Project
Let's bring back more play time to kindergarten! I am so proud of the fact that my students are successful in completing pencil and paper tasks, however, learning is so much more.
Earlier in the year, they became super "mathemagicians" with the use of hands-on math games.
Now my wish for them is to be able to apply those counting, measuring, and comparison skills to real-life math and science concepts. They will be able to do this with the use of STEM kits consisting of concepts like magnets, motion, and buoyancy. They will be able to engineer vehicles, bridges, and houses with Engineering & Design Centers. They will use the sensory gel packs and sensory foam to enhance their fine-motor skills while creating artwork. They will use the cubby system to learn responsibility, organization, and respect for classroom materials.
At their age, these activities are more than just play. This imaginative, creative, and innovative play time produces so many benefits while allowing the kids to be kids!
