I teach at a rural southern West Virginia elementary school where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch and my students come to school everyday with an enthusiasm to learn. Several of my students also receive additional food to take home with them for the weekend. Our county was the first in the state to receive iPads for students. Using this technology enables me to reach and enrich every child's educational experience. The students look forward to adding new elements into our schedule and making things hands-on. My students love learning and creating new things and time and time again I am amazed at how much joy and pride they feel when they achieve their goals!
I am requesting this robotic and inventor's kit for my students so that they may experience creating their own unique inventions. The Littlebits Gadgets and Gizmos kit allows students at any academic level to create and build a variety of simple and complex inventions.
The donations to this project will enable all of my students the opportunity to engage in hands on higher-level learning that will enrich their understanding of a variety of 21st Century skills.
This kit is designed to hit crucial skills such as math, science, literacy, music, art, and technology. Students will be able to design and create anything from remote controlled cars to complex robots, by using motors, wheels, lights, and batteries that can all be controlled through an iPad or phone.
This project will allow my students to engage in creative and imaginative activities that will fulfill and meet the 21st Century Goals through the teaching of STEAM lessons. Students who are exposed to these types of STEAM lessons will learn how to work collaboratively with others, learn problem solving skills, and learn the importance of communication skills when working within a group.
