At this brand-new, STEAM-centered school located in the heart of Silicon Valley, our students' families come from all over the world. In my classroom alone, we have eleven languages represented.
Like many of the companies in our area, we're a start-up embracing a growth mindset.
We have high-tech families who have selected our school, families who have lived in the neighborhood for years, and people from all over our district who would like project-based, hands-on, creative experiences for their kids.
My Project
Central Park's student garden will be up and running next year, and students will also be developing and honing their skills in coding and electronics. Gardening and electronics seem like very different pursuits, but we see ways to combine these two learning modalities.
At Central Park, we believe that everything around us provides us with an opportunity to learn.
While our students are very interested in coding and robotics, we are concerned about the difficulty of recycling electronic components. These Makey Makey kits will show students that many other items, specifically biodegradable ones that come from the garden, can conduct electricity. They can also use classroom materials and art supplies such as modeling clay, graphite, and paint, to create musical instruments and games using their Makey Makey kits.
