My Students

Our preschool class is part of our school district's preschool program which is located at our primary school. Our primary school is home to our littlest learners in grades PreK-2nd which is about six hundred fifty students. Our class is made up of nineteen four and five-year-olds in a full inclusion setting. We all contribute to our classroom because we all have different talents and abilities that make us unique.

Our preschoolers love to be little Scientists and Engineers.

They use their natural curiosity to explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) materials found in the classroom!! Through play, inquisitive learners take on the role of Scientists and Engineers. They use the blocks and accessories in our block center, materials in our science center, books in our library, manipulatives in our math center, art supplies in the art center, manipulatives in the fine motor center, and pretending in the dramatic play center, to better understand and development these roles in STEAM play. They are very busy Scientists and Engineers learning through hands-on, developmentally appropriate experiences.

My Project

My students need more blocks, block accessories, and other STEAM accessories like the nature blocks and young architects design blocks to create new and different structures and creations The materials will be used during center time to incorporate opportunities for STEAM play. The nature blocks and young architects design blocks will be used in the block center as materials to create structures for creative play. The mix and match magnetic animals will be used in the Science center and as an accessory for animal habitats that my preschoolers often create using STEAM materials. The Nature Up Close! light table slides will be used on our light table as a resource as potential topics to create structures during center time. All of the materials will be used together as the children create STEAM activities during center time.

Tinkering with materials to create masterpieces is how young children learn to make sense of the world around them.

This is how they understand what Science and Engineering is all about through meaningful experiences that are important and relevant to them. Having the opportunities to explore with STEAM materials is critical to school success!!
