My community is nestled in the woods on the very outskirts of a military facility. Often times overlooked by travelers, we pride ourselves on lending a helping hand to neighbors and military families and raising our children in the ways of community service and gratitude. Our school reflects this ideology in the way we raise our students to care for each other through respect and honesty. Our k/1 combo class of 27 students pride themselves on building a safe, caring, and problem solving learning community to not only helps each other, but contributes when and where they can.
We want to prepare our students to be 21st-century citizens by teaching them core competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration through STEM and STEAM based lessons.
Our goal is to remember and use the cornerstones of the past to help us navigate our future. Embracing a 21st-century learning model requires us to create learners who take intellectual risks, foster resilient learning dispositions, and nurture school communities where everyone is a learner.
My Project
Students love to design, build, and express themselves through a variety of ways! I believe that every child deserves to have a safe place to invent, create, tinker, and shine! Students shouldn't need anyone's permission to create something that they are proud of, which is why I encourage my young learners to use their creativity in ways that pushes them outside their comfort zones.
I plan to give my students the tools they need to express themselves freely while utilizing their critical thinking skills.
Our world needs engineers. Our schools need the time and tools to foster imagination and exploration. Through academic talk, collaboration, and unstructured social emotional learning time, I plan to ignite the spark of curiosity and fan the flames of creativity!
