My students need twenty-first century STEM materials to help them to become free to create their own projects, conduct experiments while working collaboratively in groups, make mistakes and learn from them.
My classroom is comprised of low academic students, students with varying exceptionalities (ESE students) and English Speakers of other Languages. These students have already seen their share of struggles academically and have become somewhat discouraged with traditional book learning. Our school has a poverty rate of eighty-eight percent. We are a Title One school based on economically disadvantaged population and all students receive free lunch and breakfast.
As a new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) school, all students are able to shine presenting different modality strengths.
Having these materials will enable my students to become more successful in problem solving, being able to persist while overcoming struggles and difficulties. Students need to be able to problem solve real world situations with desirable outcomes.
My Project
With the Magformers and Legos, students can learn what it is like as Junior Engineers. These educational activities use the creative side of the brain to imagine, create, revise and explore while engaging all parts of the students' learning capacity.
All students are able to engage in free-play which doesn't hamper the students with disabilities or low academic students giving all a chance to thrive in the classroom.
Students need to feel a sense of belonging and purpose while having strong problem solving skills they can build upon for success.
Additional STEM project books will enable me to provide year-long STEM projects for every area of the classroom and for most subjects.
