This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are caring, young scientists that are eager to learn. We are a K-5 science and technology school in an urban neighborhood. Our goal is to foster a love of learning and provide high quality, hands-on educational experiences.

Our students are STEAM enthusiasts!

We love to problem solve and design solutions while working to understand the world around us.

This year we would like to make our annual Family STEAM Night bigger than ever! Help us encourage all families to attend and participate in hands-ons STEAM activities!

My Project

This year our theme is collaboration!Help us share our students' love of learning with their families!

STEAM Night will be set up with multiple hands on centers for families to work through together.

"According to a Scholastic’s teacher survey data, 98 percent of teachers cited family involvement and support as being key to student success. And it’s no surprise; you know that students with families that are engaged are more likely to show up prepared and ready to learn. " Family STEAM Night is our way of bringing families through the school doors and engaging them in their students' education!

Throughout the week leading up to the event, we will build excitement with our students by giving them "sneak peeks" of the activities, inviting STEAM speakers into school, hosting Hour of Code events, and holding engineering challenges in class. We will also announce the event each morning and send home an all school flyer. Our students will beg their families to bring them to our event!

This year STEAM Night will include;

A giant block building station where students can work together to build large structures out of cardboard boxes.

A center where we will ask families to design and build a large marble run out of foam pipe insulation and masking tape.

Families will also be challenged to design, create, and test a sailboat that actually works! Families will be given

Our community will also be asked to work with one another to explore boomwhackers. Our goal is to have our families work together to create a piece of music!

The art department is excited to create grade-level pieces of art this year! Each family will be asked to contribute a small amount to a piece of work we can display following our big event.
