I have been lucky enough to teach the past 6 years in a first-grade classroom. First grade is truly my passion. The students that I teach are at such a fun age where they love to learn.
In first grade, students learn how to put all of their sounds together and start to read with fluency.
I love seeing the students' reading come together and the light bulb turns on. After they are able to start reading with some fluency they are off to the races and you can't slow them down. This is the part of teaching I love; I love when they start to love to read.
My Project
Through STEAM, students are able to express their thoughts through engineering and art. Students will be able to practice problem-solving skills as they are trying to build different objects. They will be learning how to collaboratively work with a group to achieve a goal.
STEAM is a great way to get kids to think outside the box and be creative.
Students will use the magnetic blocks, magnetic tiles, play-doh, and base ten blocks as building materials to build different structures. Students will use the gel crayons and markers to create pieces of art to illustrate what they have built. It is important that we will allow our students to work through this process with hands-on materials so that they get the experience they need for their future careers.
