Help me give my students a variety of STEM toys in our library! Our selection is really slim and these would provide a great variety and reinforce skills they are learning in the classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are full of energy and life. They are inner city kids who attend a Title I school. They are eager to learn and always have a smile for me. They are smart and curious and full of ideas. As you can imagine, I encounter a large number of kids who don't like to read for various reasons. I consider every one of these kids my personal mission. In the classroom they may be required to read things they don't enjoy, but in my library I am able to offer them the things that spark their interests. I live in a world where Pete the Cat says that everything is groovy, a Pigeon can demand the right to drive a bus, or where a little girl with a unstoppable, Pinktastic imagination can summon up a whole forest of flowers for her and her brother to play.
Introducing students to a colorful and unlimited dream world is my job as a media specialist.
They deserve an education as vivid as they are.
My Project
These toys will reinforce skills my students are learning in the classroom. They will also provide a great variety than what we have now. Most of what I have is geared towards older students, but the students in my classes are ages 5-7. As a result, they often end up playing with the same toys every single week. I would love to offer more options for them to learn through play.
These toys would provide more ways for my students to learn and be creative, which are two values I believe are mutually exclusive.
