I have the pleasure of teaching art in a small town with a big heart. Students love coming to the Art Studio! In my classroom, students learn how to express themselves creatively, solve problems through projects, and think independently. I offer my students a "choice" based curriculum that Teaches for Artistic Behavior (TAB). Instead of the traditional art classroom where everyone is working on the same project, during any given class period I will have students drawing, painting, sculpting, sewing, etc.
Students are eager to come into the art studio and work on projects that are student driven and inspired by their own passions and creativity.
I love that they come prepared to work with ideas they have thought of outside of school hours.
My Project
My classroom is divided into 9 different "studios." The studios allow students to explore a variety of art forms, mediums, and tools through individual student exploration. In addition to drawing, painting, collage, fibers, printmaking, sculpture, and clay, we have a "construction" studio.
In the "Construction Studio," students apply STEAM skills as they construct buildings, explore balance and symmetry, and refine skills through repeated practice.
STEAM is a way to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics into Art. The MagnaTiles will allow students to create 3 dimensional works of art. The magnetic shapes offer infinite creative possibilities because there is no "right or wrong" way to build with them; it's how students infuse their imaginations into their builds. The Engineering kit will help students explore simple machines and pulley systems. All of these materials in this project will be used for years to come!
