Help me give my students Botley the Coding Robot, a TpT $100 giftcard, Elenco Snap Circuits Kit, Artistic Copper Wire, and other STEAM materials for the Spring.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year brought on an exciting new role for me and now I am serving the unique needs of the Gifted and Talented students at my school. These students are so eager to learn and try out new things after a long drought of not having any sort of higher level learning opportunities due to services being suspended due to the pandemic. My 12 gifted students attend classes in grade-level groups but all come from a low socioeconomic background at the heart of Central Florida. All of the students at our school qualify for free lunch and very few students have access to these sorts of supplies and games at home. In order to stoke the flames of their interests students need an exceptional learning environment provided as well as the support of teachers who truly care about them.
This project is focused on providing the tactile materials we need for out Spring STEAM activities!
They will be used to build a critical curriculum and enrich the upcoming lessons. When developing hypotheses and designing plans are finished it's time to roll up those sleeves and work through our ideas in physical form.
My Project
The materials included in this project will help with specific upcoming STEAM activities included in our exciting curriculum as well as introduce them to coding and circuitry with kits and games. These little items we are constantly using to further our learning can really add up. For example, students are encouraged to write down their reasoning, support claims using evidences, disagree with a classmate or the teacher, or pose new questions and wonderings based on the learning all using post-it notes. Surprisingly, we go through a lot of post-it notes and constantly need them restocked.
We need these unique STEAM building materials to construct magnetic circuits using batteries, build patterns for coding and then use our codes in action with the robot, and learn to assemble complex circuits using the kit.
These fairly-low cost materials will help rocket my students to success in coding and circuitry. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will ensure my students are getting new and exciting Project Based Learning Activities and out of the box curriculum.
