STEAM for ALL: Implementing Robotics and Coding in Core Classes
Help me give my students the opportunity to implement STEAM projects in the core academic classes. The 6 tablets will be used to support the Shero SPRK robots that we purchased through a separate grant.
We are a Title I school with a student body that is a mix of neighborhood students and choice students attending our fairly new technology institute.
Our creative, curious and motivated group of thinkers want to improve our school culture and provide teachers with STEAM resources to integrate into all of our classrooms.
The majority of our students are enrolled in a Modeling and Simulation course in which technology, robotics, simulators and used daily. The students anticipate problem-solving and hands-on activities in this class, but we would like to provide opportunities outside of that classroom's four walls. Our students are embracing STEAM lessons throughout their school day, so the tablets I am requesting will be paired with 6 Sphero SPRK robots that we've purchased to use in our art, science, social studies, and math classrooms.
My Project
I've selected the Samsung Lite 7 tablets to support our Sphero SPRK robots. Using the Sphero apps, our students and teachers will be able to integrate into our science, social studies, and math classrooms. The tablets will allow teachers to utilize the technology in small groups to integrate the 21st-century thinking skills and encourage collaboration and relationship building among our students. There are activities within the Sphero community that support multi-disciplinary lessons that we can explore school-wide beyond our technology-based elective program. I have also requested the cases to protect the tablets to ensure we can take great care of them while using in various classrooms throughout our campus.
