Help us bring STEAM education to our school library. We are a middle school library serving seventh and eighth grade students with a student population of 1,767. Most of our students do not have access to enriching computer science curriculum. We want to build-up our library's makerspace by providing access to high quality resources.
My students are looking for these opportunities at our library.
We recently celebrated the "Hour of Code" and the level of excitement this generated was palpable. One of my students said, "I didn't know the library could be this exciting. Coding is fun." We want students to feel excited about visiting their library every day.
My Project
This project includes a class set of Microbits. They are pocket-size computers. They will be used to teach coding. The software guides students in the coding process by making it fun and easy to do. In addition, the software is open source. This means that the software is freely available online with no added charges. Microbits are the ideal option for us.
Lastly, the interface is easy to use.
This is critical as these devices will be available at the library for all students. Microbits meets students where they are at. Any student can use them regardless of their coding experience.
