I am changing roles and schools this year from classroom teacher to STEAM teacher. I will be able to impact 500 students from Kindergarten to Fifth grade.
As a STEAM/STEM teacher, I am going to be building student's skills in technology, critical thinking, and the design process.
My classroom motto is "Get Smart, Be Kind, and Make Good Choices." We spend the day using our brain power for good - by sharing with each other, playing games, working in small groups, building connections in the classroom, making art, and conducting experiments. I strive to create an environment that is engaging, challenging, nurturing, and relevant to my students' lives. Above all, it needs to be FUN!
My students are from a Title I, suburban school with a 50% poverty rate. Our school is located 20 minutes from a large city and is a diverse community. I strive to give my student's the best because they aim to give me their very best every day.
I am switching roles from a classroom teacher to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). I need some additions to my room for this new role.
I am asking for functional decorations, STEM books to create a reading nook for inspiration, construction materials, engineering supplies, and storage for the 20 classes who will be coming through my room.
The Lego Wall, posters, lights, and a lightbox will be used for inspiration and construction. The art supplies will be used for construction projects by my students. With MagnaTiles, blocks, and Legos, students can create building models and learn construction techniques. My students love being able to build and explore their creativity! I, also, am asking for art supplies so students can decorate their work
In the reading nook, I have chosen books that encourage diverse engineers - a mix of fiction and how-to books. My students love getting inspiration from books. They are always pointing to cool projects they see in books and are interested in making them, as well. So, I need books that give my students great ideas! Lastly, I need storage for all the projects students will be making. Students will have their work organized by their class and grade. The storage will make sure every project stays together with its class and does not get lost or damaged.
