My students need these items to participate in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) challenge activities in the classroom. Students will be using their critical thinking skills to problem solve and figure out solutions.
My classroom has 22 curious, enthusiastic and hardworking second graders. This year we have been focusing on community building and we call ourselves Team Tindal. We made t-shirts the first week of school and continue to participate in many community building activities. They are always looking out for each other and go above and beyond to help one another. I definitely feel blessed to work with such a great group of kids each day!
This year I would like to provide them with activities where they can use their creativity and work on critical thinking and problem solving skills.
They really enjoy hands on activities, and the STEAM activities I have been researching would be a great way for them to learn about Science and Math.
My Project
Students will participate in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) challenge activities to help develop their critical thinking skills and creativity. I have been doing some research on various activities for second graders and found a resource book, which I have included on my list.
Activities will include students building bridges to support different weights, designing foil boats to float and carry various items, making parachutes and recording hang-times, building 3-D structures using toothpicks to see which shapes are the strongest, and exploring the human body including the importance of bones to keep our body's structure.
It is so important that students have the opportunity for hands-on learning and these activities will achieve just that. Thank you for taking the time to read about this project!
