Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
a large rural school in Taos County, Enos Garcia Elementary is a Title I school with 100% free school breakfast/lunch program. I serve 361 students broken up into 19 classes K-5. Our school serves many minority students - hispanic and Native American. We accommodate many students with disabilities or Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
My Project
I am a new STEAM Activity teacher. I am bringing as much hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) to my students as possible. It is a costly endeavor and I am trying to use the materials I have in the classroom but am learning how much more we could use. In consultation with a STEM mentor, I have learned the value of bringing stations to the classroom. It would be invaluable to have snap circuits for the older students and marble mazes for the younger students (although I imagine all will use the mazes). This will help the students with their fine motor skills as they have to put these activities together. The marble mazes will help with learning forces. And the snap circuits will help with learning electricity.
