Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school with 100% of students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Our school is located in a rural and agricultural area of California where the community lacks many local resources and is home to Corcoran State prison.
Although the community is plagued by extreme poverty, drugs and gang violence, my students come to school with a positive attitude, resilient and eager to learn.
I strive to provide a variety of hands-on educational lessons, activities, and curriculum to keep students intrigued and excited about learning. My goal for my students is to provide them with a rich diversity of experiences and activities to keep them engaged with the learning process. My commitment is to instill a love for learning for years to come.
My Project
“Science and Engineering Practices describe what scientists do to investigate the natural world and what engineers do to design and build systems. The practices better explain and extend what is meant by “inquiry” in science and the range of cognitive, social, and physical practices that it requires. Students engage in practices to build, deepen, and apply their knowledge of core ideas and crosscutting concepts”. My aspiration is to have an extensive and well stocked supply of materials to make implementing the standards fun, exciting, and creative. I would like to create an effortless and accessible STEAM curriculum to all students in my classroom.
