STEAM and Literacy in the Classroom

Help me give my students some toys to play with individually during recess. Due to COVID and safety mandates, students cannot share materials. If my project is funded, students will have individual toys at their desks.

My Students

My class consists of 4 and 5 year olds entering kindergarten. For many of them, this is the first time they are attending school. Due to the pandemic, their first year of real school is going to look VERY different. Our school is a Title I school where all students are entitled to a free lunch and breakfast daily due to the high poverty rate in the community. These students would significantly benefit from educational toys and manipulatives.

My Project

These students will be used to facilitate learning and play during recess. Since we cannot share materials due to COVID, students will be able to play with these materials at their seat while social distancing and staying safe. Items requested will support creativity and literacy in our classroom! I will make individual bags with these items for each student to keep in their desk. During recess, students can use legos to build structures and the magnetic letters to build words. Students will be so excited to play and manipulate these items, but that the same time will be strengthening critical kindergarten skills.
