My Students

We are a Title I preschool at our elementary school. My classroom is full of energetic 3, 4 and 5-year-olds from a low-income area. The students in my class are working hard to develop the academic skills necessary for kindergarten and most importantly, social/emotional skills to manage the challenges in their lives. Many of my students have families with limited to no English spoken at home. For some of them, my room is the first place they are introduced to English.

My Project

Any time we can bring literature alive by incorporating the story into different areas of the classroom is amazing. These materials will bring our stories to life through science, technology, engineering, art and math. STEAM kncludes areas that get put on the back burner to make room for reading in our schools. This will bring the two together. These hands on activities are fun and engaging for the students. One activity connects the three little bears and engineering. They will design and build different chairs and beds for the three bears and see how strong their creations are. While doing this activity I can not only develope their engineering skills we will develope their comprehension and language skills as well.
