In my classroom students use today’s technology to complete project-based tasks by thinking critically. I believe students do their best work when they can be imaginative and participate in high-interest assignments. Albert Einstein said, "Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you anywhere."
My classroom consists of a mixture of demographics, backgrounds, ethnicity, and home languages.
75.81% of students in the school are economically needy. Most students do not have the support and access to the technology needed to acquire the skills necessary for the demands of an increasingly technical, STEM-intensive future. Students in my classroom are eager to learn and work together to solve problems. They are creative, motivated, hard-working and inspired by the world around them. They excel when they can combine creativity with collaborative thinking.
My Project
In order to trigger students’ interest and improve their performance in STEAM-related learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), I feel it is important to equip the classroom with the proper technology to satisfy this need. Osmo enables the iPad to merge physical play with the digital advantages of real-time feedback. Playing beyond the screen invites students to collaborate while manipulating tangible game pieces such as number tiles, letter tiles, and coding blocks. Through this, creativity is unleashed and imagination is sparked!
Students will think critically in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math by interacting with the Osmo games, including Osmo Numbers, Words, Tangram, Coding, Masterpiece, and Newton.
Learning will be customized for the students as they advance through levels in the areas of math, reading, spelling, science, and coding.
The end goal is to cultivate imagination, creativity, problem solving, and curiosity in students who would not normally have these opportunities through the use of technology. Low-income students will have access to the right technology and be able to develop the skills needed for a quality career in their future. Students will gain the knowledge and confidence to think outside the box and solve problems!
