My students need STEAM supplies including a Hydraulics Engineering STEM kit, a Create A Chain Reaction kit, and Don't Lose Your Marbles kit and other materials and supplies to extend their learning at home and school.
My classroom has the words, LOOK, LEARN and LAUGH printed largely in the room. I strive for my room to be a place where students are encouraged to be inquisitive, wonder, think and enjoy themselves and each other.
My students are a busy, motivated group who desire and need more resources.
My fourth graders love working in groups and sharing their learning experiences. Students at our elementary school are digital learners, born into a digital world. They have diverse learning needs with various learning abilities. Our students expect and thrive on instant knowledge, feedback, and assistance. We are a small school in a rural farming community.
My Project
Our schools had been trying to make STEAM curriculum more of a focus. We spend a lot of time with reading and math during our day and although we try, it seems that STEAM projects do not happen as much as we would like.
To help with this problem, we would like to give our students more opportunities to take home STEAM games and activities.
We have found that our fourth grade students do not have access to a lot of science and math opportunities at home that are engaging and appropriate. The hydraulics Engineering STEM kit, the Create A Chain Reaction kit and other kits from Lakeshore will give students hands-on experiences at home. We have other resources that we allow our students to take home on a regular basis. We would like to do the same with these STEAM activities.
We are hoping that having the ability to engage with these tools at home will spark some interests and bring more conversation to our learning at school. The items in our project are going to be able to go home with our different classroom scientists each week. We know that having more play and interaction with STEM items that are students will continue to improve as learners.
