Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Mrs. M and Mrs. L team to bring collaborative, technology-rich, STEAM learning opportunities to students. Our students love hands-on experiential learning. They thrive on learning anyplace and time.
Inspired by hands-on children's museums, we are teaming to bring STEAM powered learning opportunities to all students at List Elementary.
The goal of this project is to bring a hands on, STEAM learning hall to our school entry way. Students will learn about air, engineering, sound, light, motion and more through interactions in the hands on hall. The hands on hall will provide STEAM learning opportunities for all students in our school during before and after school wait times (transformed to learning time) and will also be a place for teachers to bring their students to, for class time. As part of our project, our second grade students will focus on engineering, motion, creativity and design skills. Students will interact with the wall to learn about gravity, engineering and art. Students will then apply their knowledge, to create and design their own marble maze. Student-created mazes will be placed in the hall for other students to engage in.
My Project
The wind tunnel, light table and magnet wall will provide students with an opportunity to invest in their own learning and engage in real world learning experiences. Students will be able to create and learn about engineering, wind and light hands-on. The Kinect and iPads mounted to the walls will bring leading edge, collaborative opportunities and technologies that promotes interest and redefine students’ learning experiences. STEM learning and creativity come to life for our digital natives. With the vast apps and programs, the iPads and Kinect provide a platform for interactive and artistic learning. Having the materials to use in the hall during non-instructional time takes advantage of all teachable moments and entices students to become self directed learners while also providing STEAM resources for all teachers to use during instructional time. The materials in the hands on hall provides optimal potential for student growth in STEAM areas.
With the exposure to these hands on, creative and engaging resources, students will gain a solid foundation of science, technology, engineering, and math skills while incorporating their artistic interests.
These skills will help prepare students for a path to success from the classroom to STEM careers of the future. This project will enable lifelong learners, creators and innovators who are excited and driven to extend their learning and problem solving.
