Help me give my students copies of Upfront Magazine. This subscription will allow students to connect current events to our Civics curriculum while practicing skill used to break down sources on LEAP testing.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come to Civics with a wide variety of backgrounds. I teach at a 100% free/ reduced lunch campus, our students often come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. While our schools are not always the best, we are on the rise and constantly looking for creative ways to show our students that they can excel in an academic venture.
This year I would like to create a comfortable, relaxed environment in order to successfully guide them towards more rigorous coursework.
My Project
This subscription will provide real world, current articles that can be used to connect Civics ideas to current events. It will allow students to identify bias, break down news stories, analyze data connected to articles and write constructed responses based on sources.
Upfront Magazine has differentiated articles that allow every student to succeed at LEAP skills.
I will use these articles as an introduction into discussing political events, practicing the essential task of discussing current events while maintaining order and intelligence.
Because our school is in a low socioeconomic area, asking the district for this academic resource is not feasible. Please help me get these students the academic resources they deserve.
