Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach children with mild to moderate learning disabilities in a high-poverty school where all of our students receive free breakfast, healthy snacks, and lunch. Through no actions of their own, these kids have been dealt a hand that will make their school careers more challenging than for some children, in more ways than one.

The challenges that some of our students may face are a lack of resources, such as transportation, or other economic hardships that may result in their family becoming homeless.

Families in this situation may have to live with relatives or friends. Our students who find themselves in this situation are guaranteed attendance at our school, even being provided with bus fare so that they can make it to school daily, no matter where they are staying.

Our school is filled with hardworking, dedicated teachers and staff who meet the challenges of working with an at-risk population on a daily basis. We work very hard at creating a sense of community for our children, their parents, and of course the staff of our school. Thank you for your support in this endeavor!

My Project

We are all both happy and scared to be back in school in person again! Some things are the same, and some things will never be the same again.

As has always been the case, students have difficulty concentrating when they are hungry and there is just too much time before lunch, especially if they missed breakfast.

I am requesting healthy snacks and protein drinks to help alleviate that discomfort and facilitate healthy learning.

In addition, the primary concern on everyone's mind is staying safe from germs that cause not only COVID-19, but any illness that endangers the health of our students. To reduce the chance of kids becoming sick, I am requesting wipes for screens and hands alike! To keep those particles contained in their spaces, I am requesting masks, and filters for cloth masks.
