Our 4th grade students come from a very diverse background, mostly Filipino, Hawaiian, Asian, and small percentage of Caucasian, and many blended from different ethnic backgrounds.
Our school is a Title 1 school which is considered a low income school and half of the student population qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
Their parents are working-class who work very hard to provide for their families. Although most of our population struggles financially, our school is one of the top 25% schools in Hawaii. We have been selected as a blue ribbon school. Our free and reduced-price students do just as well academically as the kids who do not get a free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
My students will be using the requested pocket folders to organize their learning materials by subject on a daily basis. Having implemented this organizational structure this past school year, we found that students were more successful in their learning. Often times we see students misplacing school materials or not knowing where to look for learning materials, this system gives them a way to organize their work. This donation will greatly reduce the cost the teachers have to pay for school supplies.
With students coming from low-income families, it is difficult for our families to purchase all the supplies needed.
We are requesting six boxes of composition books so that students can keep their interactive notes in a central location. These folders and composition books will help the students greatly.
