This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty." Mother Teresa
Teaching inner city students can be tough, the poverty can be unbelievable and the stories can seem so unreal.
Some of my students never witnessed success in the classroom due to their home environment, they don't see a future. I tell my students' success starts with you.
My Project
Teaching inner city can be tough. My students need basic hygiene items in order to have more confidence in themselves and not be embarrassed due to hygiene issues. I first did this same campaign back in August, once it was fully funded and I received the supplies, the joy and excitement on my student's faces were priceless. I didn't imagine I would run out of supplies in just a few weeks. I never knew the need was that great for basic supplies at my school.
Imagine growing up in poverty and not having the basic necessities that we sometimes take for granted.
My students need deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste so they can have the confidence to meet new people. My female students also need sanitary napkins and wipes so they can feel good about themselves and not be embarrassed when its that time of the month. Finally, my students need facial tissue, band-aids and alcohol wipes to make themselves complete.
