Mr. Collins from Durham NC is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students quality headphones to aid their quest for extensive technological learning.

These highly energetic rising 6th graders are from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. Their exposure to the world and environmental experiences varies greatly. However, one thing that is consistent amongst them is their generational learning strengths. They are more visually inclined and learn best when physical objects and/or technology are accessible to help them make sense of problem-solving. I, therefore, desire to utilize effective best practice strategies that will allow me to meet their learning strengths and give them the best opportunity to continue to grow and develop in their conceptual understanding.
However, there may come a time when our students experience a disconnect when transitioning to middle school, and the strategies that accommodate their learning styles oftentimes shift as a result of generational innovations such as electronic devices.
These students really enjoy highly engaging activities where they can utilize hands-on learning and technological devices that accommodate their tactile learning strengths.
Therefore, when we are engaged in solving real-world problems and higher-order thinking questions, we must be equipped with resources that accommodate our learning styles and structures in which we can make relevant connections and build upon our mathematical foundation.
Transitioning to middle school brings challenges both socially and academically. Many students experience an easier transition when the resources that they utilize are aligned with the resources that shaped their academic development and their social interactions.
Particularly in math, many students find learning via technological devices to be more engaging.
Such engagement can be bolstered with uses of ipad, tablets and ect. My school has a sufficient amount of devices for student use, but the absence of quality headphone devices makes it difficult for the students to be truly engaged in their learning while using the devices. Beyond that, the ability of parents to provide them for the student is equally challenging for many.
These Jlab audio wired over the ear headphones will allow me to extensively infuse a computer-based math program into the learning experience as a vehicle to aid them in activating their knowledge of a previous concept and linking it to a recently learned concept. This learning experience will provide a visual representation of the concept and keep the students with their technological world.
