I have a class of students of great need, socio-economically. We are an urban neighborhood public school filled with over 600 students of all lower-income obtaining backgrounds, high academic need in terms of resources and funding but culturally rich Latino backgrounds and highly motivated to succeed. 94.5% of our students receive free or reduced-price meals and our families need support in providing supplies necessary for my students to learn to the best of their ability.
Despite some family financial setbacks, my students have a drive to learn and love to come to school every day.
They are attentive, engaged and love to interact with one another, sharing ideas and knowledge. It is truly my joy to see them come alive when they learn and share new things in our classroom.
My students will learn how important it is for them to stay fit and active by tracking their steps daily. The more active they are, the healthier they will be. They are also learning the importance of helping others in need who don't have enough food or nutrition.
With UNICEF Kid Power, kids go on virtual missions to unlock therapeutic food packets for severely malnourished children around the world.
When kids wear the UNICEF Kid Power Band, the more they move, the more points they earn, the more lives they save!
These power bands will help my students as well as severely malnourished children around the world.
