This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first grade class is a place for reading, writing, exploring, and learning! Students spend time each day learning the foundation of reading in order to learn new information and apply it to all subjects.
Most of these students have been together since kindergarten, so they treat each other like family.
We've spent the first few weeks of school building community through circle time, brain breaks, art, and discussions during read alouds. I've learned that these kids are motivated to be their very best selves. They come in every day to learn, work hard, and push themselves. Our motto this year is, "It may be hard, but hard is not impossible!"
My students are learning to read nonstop for forty minutes. They are eager to learn, to ask questions, and to one day change the world and give back to their community.
My Project
Coming back to school my students will love a new rug space that is cozy and inviting for learning. My students love real aloud time, having space for them to spread out will be awesome. Also the books I selected, Junie B. Jones are favorites in first grade. The digital Time subscription will bring Non fiction into the class.
This rug will be used by students to read, work in groups, play games, listen to the teacher read books, teach new skills and students will use it during free time.
I want my students to have everything they need to be engaged, successful learners. This rug will be cared for and used each year.
