Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low-income, high poverty neighborhood in Chicago. Over 97% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches based on their socio-economic backgrounds.
My middle schoolers are passionate, highly motivated individuals who are passionate about school and love challenging themselves every day.
My classroom includes children with learning disabilities, who come from families experiencing poverty or have limited English proficiency. However, they all enjoy discovering, working, and learning together and encourage each other in and out of school. Despite the challenges they face in and out of school, our teachers always try to create meaningful academic and social-emotional experiences that peak their interests.
This year, I have the honor of teaching to 7th and 8th graders. Providing my students technology and an unlimited amount of resources would allow my students to have a more engaging and creative school year.
My Project
Our 8th graders will be attending YMCA - Camp Duncan for their 8th grade field trip. This year, over 75 students will spend three days in cabin with their friends, making fun lasting memories, before they are headed out to high school. Our students will be playing outdoor sports, hiking, boating, and climbing towers. They will be out running and sweating like crazy! Please help us in maintaining out kids hydrated during this fun experience.
Our students have worked so hard in order to attend camp!
They have really worked hard on their grades and have participated in fundraisers to attend camp and pay off all the other graduation expenses. Please help us in obtaining sports drinks for their trip. Our students will be moving and exercising nonstop. Having coolers with sports drinks available will help them enjoy camp without feeling fatigued from the heat. They already have a list of items to pack for camp. Please help us by making their list a bit smaller.
