My Students

My students are wonderful! Aren't they all? I teach on the island of Maui, Hawaii. My students are particularly interested in the environment and live a geographically rich life connected to the ocean and mountains surrounding us. If there ever was a group of students that want to help "Save the Earth", it is these kids.

The people of Hawaii are immersed in culture and my students show a reverence and a true love of learning.

We are somewhat isolated from the mainland USA and the rest of the world for that matter, so it is becoming increasingly important to me to make my lessons relevant and connect to real world circumstances. We know knowledge is power and they are ready for it.

My Project

A TIME for Kids magazine subscription provides the students with engaging writing and professional photography on a weekly basis. These magazines are a great source of authentic journalism and entertain the students while increasing their knowledge of the world around them.

When students are enthusiastic about what they are reading it makes it a win-win for all of us.

I highly value the information and print rich materiel that this company provides. These magazines can single handedly bring timely, real world events to the students in a way they can understand and appreciate. The non-fiction stories become part of our classroom conversations and allows time for reflection and personal connection, and as a teacher that is priceless.

We would all greatly benefit by having these magazines a part of our classroom.
